Councillor: Your Central Ward Update

On behalf of your two Central Ward Town Councillors, myself (Nathan Griffiths) and Alan Humphries hope you are well and enjoying a healthy and happy start to 2022. As your two representatives on the town council we just wanted to drop in and personally give you an update about the current situation in the Central Ward, just in case you’ve been unable to keep an eye on things during this incredibly intense pandemic period.

There has been a lot to be proud of in both Droitwich over this difficult period, from the successful local vaccine rollout all the way to Droitwich Olympic heroes winning Gold in Tokyo! Crucially, the town has remained resilient in the fight against Covid and this has allowed us all to play our part in keeping our local communities ticking. On a town council level, myself and Alan have continued to work behind the scenes to deliver for Droitwich.

Early in 2021 with the help of fantastic local volunteers we managed to secure Droitwich’s prestigious FairTrade status which puts us on the map as an ethical and sustainable town for business and trade. We have also been very pleased to support grants for fantastic local initiatives such as the local heritage trail, Droitwich Spa Football Club pavilion upgrades (you can check out the progress at King Georges Fields!) and the Community Cabin at Droitwich Spa
High School.

Alan has also been instrumental in pushing for the formation of a “Neighbourhood Plan” for Droitwich which would give residents more say over the future development of the town. Despite pushback from some Conservative Councillors who are unfortunately seeking to curtail these plans, Alan and the Neighbourhood Plan group have advanced these plans considerably over the past 18 months and increased resident empowerment in local development decisions is closer than ever thanks to his efforts.
