The 10% extra that Reform-run Worcestershire wanted from our Council Tax has been trimmed to 9% by the Labour government.
The County Council’s tax-increase demand comes despite the Council getting £33 million of emergency government funding this year, plus millions in extra government grants to start rebuilding local services, plus the promise that the government would write off up to 90% of its accumulated Special Education debt.
“This crisis is the result of 14 years of council funding cuts made by Conservative and Lib Dem governments, on top of decades of local Conservative mismanagement and reliance on costly private contracts. Worcestershire’s Reform UK councillors – including many turncoat Tories who helped create the mess – seem divided on how to finish the job.” said Evesham Labour Councillor Mary Tasker. “Worcestershire County Council should be rebuilding its capacity to provide vital public services, not endlessly funnelling taxpayers’ money into management bonuses and contractor dividends.”
