Your Labour Candidate for Evesham South

Last Friday, David Tasker was announced as your Labour candidate to contest the upcoming Wychavon District Council by-election in Evesham South, which will take place on 10th August. Learn more about David and what he stands for in his own words below.

I was raised in a steel and mining town in South Wales before relocating to Evesham for employment fourteen years ago. My wife Mary manages a care home in the Evesham South ward and is a serving District Councillor for Evesham North. We have three adult children who are employed in the charity, social work and utilities sectors.

I have worked in the UK Energy Industry for over forty years and am also a senior Trade Union official. I hope to put my years of negotiating experience to work, getting the best for Evesham residents.

I live in Evesham and am proud to support the wide range of local events that the town has to offer. I am a keen supporter of live music and arts events. I’m passionate about improving the environment for the whole community. I regularly take part in litter picking and river cleaning events with the Anti-Litter Evesham group.

I want to give residents a strong voice on District Council issues. I am prepared to listen to residents and take their concerns forward to deliver positive results.

St. Richards Open Space has seen significant improvement but there is more to do. I would work closely with the Friends of St. Richards Open Space to further improve this important local asset.

Residential side streets in Evesham South are often blighted by dangerous speeding drivers. I will engage with the County Council Highways Department to explore the introduction of 20-mph speed limits.

I know that policing to reduce the local crime and drug crime in particular is high on everyone’s list. I will work with the local constabulary and County Council to increase the presence of community officers within Evesham South.

I am also aware of concerns regarding anti-social behaviour, poor street lighting, and a lack of affordable facilities for young people within the ward.
